Hydraulic Power Units for cable laying vessel Nexans Electra
Power and connectivity often seem like a given. Yet there is more to it than meets the eye. Especially with offshore wind farms and subsea interconnection, this is a huge challenge. Advanced cable-laying vessels are deployed especially for these projects. Equipped with state-of-the-art cable-laying technology to install various types of subsea cables. Currently, a new cable laying vessel named Nexans Electra is being built. We were commissioned by Remacut to supply several hydraulic power units (HPUs) for this ship.

What do our hydraulic power units do?
On board the cable laying vessel, our HPUs are used to hydraulically power all cable tensioners and loading arms. Specifically designed by our engineers to combine powerful performance with precise control. The pump sets consist of 30kW electric motors driving Linde HPR02 LS/DA pumps. In addition, the HPUs are redundant to always keep functioning in the exceptional case that one part of the pumps fails.

Expertise in hydraulic drive technology
Our engineers were allowed to fully execute this project. From hydraulic system design to mechanical design and then assembly. The hydraulic power units were also extensively tested in our test room. Using our mobile test bench, the systems were loaded at maximum power for an extended period of time and subjected to various practical tests.

Factory Acceptance Test in our test facility
During the FAT, both the customer and a surveyor from the independent body DNV were present. Multiple functional and pressure tests were conducted to verify the performance of the HPUs. All digital measurements were accurately recorded and incorporated into detailed FAT reports. The result was a successful FAT acceptance and nice completion of this project.
