Overhaul of hydraulic drive set for tugboat Dutch Power
We recently completed an exciting and challenging project. The tugboat Dutch Power was out of service for major maintenance. Our colleagues at Hydromarine are very familiar with this tugboat. When it was built in 2009, they were responsible for installing the complete hydraulic drive set. This drive set powers the winches, deck equipment, and bow thruster, among other things. After all these years of intensive use, it was time to bring everything back into top condition.
Customized solution
The hydraulic drive set underwent a thorough check and visual inspection. The customer had one clear requirement: the turnaround time had to be as short as possible so that the Dutch Power could be back in service quickly. However, during the inspection, it became apparent that certain parts of the pumps were outside the tolerance range.
After consultation, it was decided to replace the existing pumps from the Linde HPV series with new ones. Unfortunately, the correct model of pumps was not in stock and had a longer delivery time. In order to still be ready within the desired time frame, our engineering department got to work immediately. The pumps that were available were converted into a suitable solution. A great challenge for the knowledge and creativity of our colleagues.
Teamwork and craftsmanship
While engineering worked on the pumps, the gearbox and coupling were overhauled at Stiebel. The service and repair department took care of the technical implementation, modification of components, and assembly work. Among other things, they were responsible for modifying the steering covers and rear head bores. The overhauled hydraulic drive set was then assembled in Zutphen.
This solution was a good example of the collaboration between Hydromarine and Motrac Industries. Thanks to the efforts of our colleagues, the overhaul was completed in record time. After only two and a half weeks, the drive set was reinstalled on the Dutch Power. A project we look back on with pride as a team.
