Upgraded Electric Winch Wagon for Shipyard Rotterdam
Shipyard Rotterdam is taking another step forward in safe and sustainable operations at the port. In collaboration with Motrac Industries, the concept of the electric winch wagon was further developed. The result: an innovative solution that offers operators greater control, increased safety, and reduced physical strain when mooring seagoing vessels.

Maximum Control and Safety During Mooring
The upgraded winch cart combines a powerful electric motor, hydraulic pump, battery pack, and advanced control technology. Thanks to this smart technology, the status of the winch and drive system is continuously monitored. The system responds immediately to changes in load, allowing mooring lines to be hauled in and secured with precision and control.
Indispensable During Mooring
When mooring seagoing vessels, the process must proceed smoothly and safely. Day and night, under varying weather conditions, crew members ensure that lines are brought from the ship to the dock. Colleagues on shore then take over the lines, which are secured using a winch wagon.
It is precisely during this crucial phase that the redesigned electric winch cart makes all the difference. The winch pulls the rope in in a controlled manner and assists the rower with the heavy work, thereby increasing both efficiency and safety.

Innovative hand brake enhances safety
One of the most notable improvements is the unique electronic hand brake function. This technology instantly detects changes in pulling force and keeps the winch stable in position. Even with sudden changes in tension in the rope, the system continues to operate in a controlled manner.
For dockworkers, this means greater peace of mind when working with heavy lines and fluctuating forces. The innovative braking function thus makes a significant contribution to a safe working environment on the dock.
Ready for the port of tomorrow
In addition to the benefits in terms of safety and ease of use, the electric drive also contributes to a more sustainable port. The winch wagon produces less noise and no direct emissions, ensuring a more pleasant working environment and a lower environmental impact.
With this development, Shipyard Rotterdam reaffirms its ambition to invest in smart, sustainable, and future-proof solutions for the maritime sector.
